T – 2 days

As we’re getting closer to TechEd in Berlin I’m actually prepared quite good this time. My presentation came out great and I turned it in on time. That doesn’t happen every time, let me tell you.

There are a lot of Swedes presenting this time, I’m doing my best to cram them all into the schedule. I’ve found some other sessions I’ll be visiting also. Looking forward to meeting some old friends too, and hopefully make some new ones. My friend Sander Berkouwer (more about him in the next post) will be there, and a lot of people from Sweden and USA that I usually just meet at gatherings like this.

On Monday night Berlin celebrates 20 years since the wall came down. This will most likely be one heck of a partynight. Tuesday is the Springboard-party with MVP’s, MCT’s, other knowledgeable persons and a bunch of Microsoft employees. (I’m not saying they’re not knowledgeable!)

Wednesday SpecOps and Knowledge Factory are hosting the Swedish country party together with Microsoft. Be sure to register on Microsofts site to be sure to get in! (URL provided in email by Microsoft)

Are you going? You could contact me through the form, by email, or call me when you get there!

Toolbox Utilities

Thought I’d let you guys know what I’ve been looking at the last few weeks. As a consultant there are always a bunch of tools that you use. Maybe not on an everyday basis, but when you need it you know where to find it.

Here are a few of my favourite ones that have arrived lately:

The Remote Desktop Load Simulation Toolset

This collection of utilites lets you simulate and measure load on Remote Desktop Services. So if you’re wondering how that VDI infrastructure of yours is gonna hold up, now you can actually benchmark it before production.

Remote Desktop Connection 7.0

Provides connectivity for downlevel OS:es, like Windows XP SP3 for example. Note that you won’t get any of the new features when connecting TO any OS not supporting it.

Disk2VHD 1.21

Disk2vhd is a utility that creates VHD (Virtual Hard Disk – Microsoft’s Virtual Machine disk format) versions of physical disks for use in Microsoft Virtual PC or Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines (VMs). The difference between Disk2vhd and other physical-to-virtual tools is that you can run Disk2vhd on a system that’s online.

The Microsoft Hardware Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool

Do you have a bunch of random machines in your environment and need to know which have processors that support hardware assisted virtualization and if this setting is enabled?  If so, this tool is for you!

Microsoft SharedView

Microsoft SharedView is a fast, easy way to share documents and screen views with small groups of friends or coworkers; anytime, anywhere. Use SharedView to put your heads together and collaborate – create, convey, and communicate…across physical boundaries, through firewalls, and down to the smallest details.
